Just the thing for warm water diving
As we all know from our PADI Open Water training you lose a lot of heat from your head. On a warm water dive you don’t initially notice this but if you do long dives or repetitive dives you can really begin to feel the chill. A traditional dive hood is an awkward and restrictive thing, not really what you want when wetsuit diving on tropical reefs. So it was with great interest that I noticed quite a few divers in Bonaire using an abreviated hood that offered most of the protection of a full hood without the drawbacks.
The product in question is a neoprene beanie hat. Firstly my wife, who feels the cold more, bought one, then when I saw the advantages I followed suit. This is it: http://www.akona.com/product.php?product_id=91Â , on Bonaire you can buy them from Carib Inn. It certainly did the job! Nowhere near as awkward as a full hood, you don’t really notice that you are wearing it. However I was a whole lot warmer after the dives and as a result our dives became longer. So the beanie very quickly paid for itself in extra dive time.
