DAN, why you should join.
OK I’ll spell this out.
Say you are on holiday somewhere interesting.
Maybe one of the Grenadines.
You surface after a dive and develop a nasty rash over your shoulders.
You ring up your normal, everyday insurer and tell them.
What do they know?
You are up the creek without a paddle.
Ring DAN and they know everything. Where the chambers and doctors are and how good they are. The best way for you to get there. What to do in the meantime. Etc.
Everyone I know who has been involved in a DAN medical emergency has nothing but praise. They sort the situation out and quick.
I don’t insure myself with DAN primarily to cover the costs. I do it so they can handle the situation. So I am still alive and healthy afterwards. Sod the money.
DAN did not get to where they are by clever TV advertising. They did it by giving a unique, fantastic and essential service. DAN is a non profit mutual benefit organisation. Every diver should be a member, the cost of membership is trivial and you never know when it is going to be your turn.
