Lewis Gavin was my cousin and a good man. Let us remember these people for having lost their lives early.

Greetings,
I just wanted to post and ask for any comments on a quick note on Shipwrecks and my friend Jere Thorne. Jere was an expert on rebreathers and died using one. I am not a SCUBA diver but I want to get certified in Jere's honor.

He was an amazing man and I wanted to make sure this site new that.

Surely it's worth noting that some of these sad fatalities are not directly related to the fact that the divers were on rebreathers?

e.g. a loss of buoyancy control and a fast ascent followed by DCI are not in themselves directly the fault of the rebreather, while a setpoint/scrubber failure obviously are.

1) Correction to accident of Swiss Citizen Roland Schön of 25th September 2005: first name written with one "l" only; he dived with a german clone of an RB-80. main reason was a too low oxygen content in loop at end of dive in shallow waters. location was Zugersee (lake of Zug).
2) deadly accident of sunday, 4th march 2007: Vierwaldstättersee (central part of Switzerland): Andrea Zepperitz, a female open water technical instructor, living in the Zurich area . died 2 days later in hospital. dived with a passive AMV-triggered SCR (rumors said it was german RB-80 clone). information also say it was during the ascent part of a training dive with her rebreather instructor. (I'm not authorized to disclose his name).

Would it not be more beneficial to state, with as much detail as possible, why these accidents occurred? That way, people can read, learn and understand how to become safer rebreather divers. I fail to see how listing fatalities with no details of the events is useful. I can think of no other reason for this list being here, other than to discourage people from using rebreathers.
Please let me know if I've got the wrong end of the stick.
Kind regards,
Edward Penny
